Salish Kootenai College Honored by U.S. Department of Education

The U.S. Department of Education recently announced the winners of its inaugural Postsecondary Success Recognition Program. This prestigious award honors colleges and universities that excel in serving underserved student populations, facilitating successful student transfers and completions, and preparing graduates for successful careers. We are incredibly proud to announce that Salish Kootenai College (SKC) is among the esteemed recipients of this inaugural award!

The Postsecondary Success Recognition Program highlights the vital role that institutions like SKC play in advancing educational attainment and economic mobility for all Americans, with a particular focus on underserved communities. For Native American students, higher education has historically presented unique challenges. However, the graduation rates for Native Americans are steadily increasing, and SKC is a significant contributor to this positive trend.

At SKC, we’ve been dedicated to serving Native American students on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana for many years. We understand the unique needs and aspirations of our students, and we’ve built our programs around those insights. This commitment translates into a remarkable graduation rate of 50% – a testament to our student-centered approach.

But SKC isn’t just about getting students across the finish line. We’re committed to equipping them with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in the modern workforce. Our diverse curriculum offers programs in high-demand fields like business, education, and healthcare, ensuring our graduates are well-prepared for successful careers.

The Postsecondary Success Recognition Program serves as a powerful validation of our mission at SKC. It’s an honor to be recognized for our dedication to our students and a testament to the impact we’re making in Indian Country.
