Recent Graduate Empowers Through Art: Honoring Strong Indigenous Women and Inspiring Creative Journeys

Tacoma native Nicolas Grant, a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes, recently showcased his exceptional artistic talent at the 2023 capstone art show after graduating from Salish Kootenai College. Grant’s capstone project, “Strong Indigenous Women,” featured professionally printed canvas bags adorned with unique beaded designs, paying homage to influential Indigenous women in his life. While initially focused on photography, Grant expanded his artistic horizons by double majoring in Fine Arts, combining his passion with digital design technology. He aspires to open a photography studio where he can mentor aspiring artists. Grant embraces his Indigenous roots, incorporating traditional techniques into his art while infusing his personal style. Despite balancing a full-time job, he recognizes the importance of maintaining a creative outlet for self-expression and self-discovery. With a vision of creating art that resonates with others, Grant’s ever-evolving journey continues to inspire and captivate with his unique artistic vision.
